| Chalets - Definitions | |
| Chalet Board |
All of the holidays in this system include 'Chalet Board' - that is breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner with wine for 6 of the 7 nights of your stay. The 7th night (usually Wednesday) is the chalet staff night off and you are expected to eat out. |
| Chalet Hotel |
Chalet hotels are big chalets (that were often hotels in a previous life), normally sleeping at least 25 people, often run by one of the larger tour operators in the more popular resorts. They can have as many as 100 beds. Accommodation standards vary as with chalets.
Although they can be fully booked for oversize groups (e.g. school reunions, college trips) they normally have several groups staying at the same time. On the plus side, they offer instant access to ski and apres ski buddies, and are great for the gregarious. The downside is that you have no choice of who is there at the same time and it can be hard to escape the obligatory ski-bore or squealing children.
Again, chalet hotels are run on a chalet board basis. |
| Eurostar |
There are three different Eurostar options:
Eurostar Day Train - Direct service from Waterloo to Bourg St Maurice and intermediate resort stations. Departs every Saturday morning during the season.
Eurostar Night train - Direct service from Waterloo to Bourg St Maurice and intermediate resort stations. Departs every Friday evening during the season. There are no couchettes on this train - you will be in a sit-up seat. The return journey departs Bourg St Maurice on Saturday evening allowing an extra day's skiing at either end of the holiday.
Eurostar Paris - Eurostar to Paris arriving in Paris at approximately 9pm on Friday evening, then taking the overnight snowtrain to the station nearest your resort. This is only available through Tour Operators.

| Luxury Rating |
The luxury rating is a guide to the level of the accommodation and service. It is intended to provide a comparison for properties in different resorts and belonging to different tour operators as follows:
* Budget - perhaps not the best location and a low ratio of baths to beds. The facilities may be basic.
** Simple - with better ratio of baths to beds and higher level of service
*** Comfortable - Mid range and good level of service
**** Very comfortable - with high level of service - high ratio of baths to beds
***** Luxury - the ultimate in both accommodation and service
Where a half star is used this means that the chalet has something extra special within its grade. This may be the luxury of a private sauna or hot-tub for example, a particularly convenient location, sensational views, or just that indefinable 'je ne sais quoi' which has made the chalet a favourite”.
These ratings are based on Ski Solutions' own knowledge. Over the years we have visited most of the chalets on this system and we know all the tour operators, how they work and the standard of accommodation and service that they provide. If you disagree with any of the ratings here, please call or email us |
| Shortlist |
As you browse the chalets and offers in this system, you can add them to a personal shortlist. It doesn't commit you to anything - it's just a way of keeping track of holidays you think you might like. When you have finished browsing you can send it in to us and request a booking, or you can email other members of your group the details of any of the chalets in your shortlist. |
| Ski to door |
This is a general term that we have taken to mean that the chalet is within 100metres / 2minutes walk from the slopes. |
| Snowtrain |
Non-eurostar rail service using Dover-Calais ferry. Couchette service on French leg of journey. This is the original snowtrain. |
